Hi.

Can I please ask if I'm alone in having issues with webcams on the M1 MacMini?

I've logged tickets with both Apple and Logitech, but would be interested in the collective's insights.

Host system: Mac mini (M1-2020; 16Gb RAM; 1Tb SSD; Big-Sur 11.1) + Dell U3818DW

I have connected the C922 direct to the back of the MacMini and the built-in hub in the Dell monitor. I have connected the Mac mini to the monitor via USB-C and HDMI + USB.

Under all connection scenarios (listed above), after making one video call (FaceTime or Zoom), the video feed becomes stuttered/juddered/lagged and absolutely unusable - so much so that I cannot make a second video call or make use of the webcam for other purposes. Even if I quit the host application (FaceTime/Zoom/Photobooth) the image issue remains.
The only way to resolve is to unplug the webcam and plug it back in again to be able to use the webcam again for any form of video (including Photo Booth).

I have made contact with Apple and tried troubleshooting including trying to replicate the issue in a new user account on the Mac, in Safe Mode and also after performing a clean install of macOS via recovery mode. In every situation, the fault/issue is present.

I've tried to replicate the issue on my old Mid-2015 i7 16Gb MBP running BigSur (11.1) but the camera is working like a dream and as {preferred deity here} intended.

So that leads me to suspect an issue with the M1 USB architecture?

But I'm not an expert.

Would appreciate any insights/thoughts. Or if anyone has a similar setup, is it working OK? Did you have to do anything cleaver?

Thanks in advance.

I have your exact computer but use two Dell 3220 gaming monitors and a Logitech C270 plugged into one of the monitors USB ports and have not had any issues. I tend not to use video calls (1-2/month), but when I do it is facetime.

I am having the exact same issue as you. I'm on a Late 2013 i7 quad core with 16gb of ram. I upgraded to Big Sur and my c922 is unusable. It works for about half my day and then after a few hours it completely degrades. Video is not in sync with audio, it has a 2 second lag in the video, even my entire system is painfully slow with using things like chrome.

When I use my onboard webcam on my laptop, the video is perfectly smooth. I think it has to do with lghub and the c922.

I read on another forum where Logitech said the c922 is not compatible on Big Sur.

I'm having to downgrade as there is no other option and I can barely get any work completed.

I'll be using the Logitech BRIO webcam with my M1 mini when it arrives. (worked fine with my 16" MBP...so hopefully no issues)

I have the 922 with a 2018 i5 on Big Sur, no issues here so likely an issue with the M1.
I don't have an M1 and I'm having serious issues with the webcam. If I switch to my built-in webcam then no problems. External? Big problems.

I have a 922 and 615. Ended up having to shoe horn Logitec's Game Software (32 bit) onto my 2018 mini in order to get the 615 to work. I have the 922 and I don't think I was able to get it to work well. It is one of several reasons why I refuse to (probably ever) upgrade the OS. That and ABBYY Finereader.

The issue I've had using M1 using a logitech brio is that when I start speaking, my voice starts looping. Didn't have this problem on my Intel Mac and don't have that problem on my Windows PC

I'm having a similar issue on similar hardware: Mac Mini (m1, 2020), 16gb, LG 32UK50T, Logitech 920. On google meet and zoom video chats I see my video as choppy/jittery, but all other video steams look fine. The participants on the other side did not notice the sputtery frame rate. From Quicktime player -> record movie I can see and record the jittery video. The recording will run for a few seconds until quicktime unexpectedly stops recording with a message "recording stopped". The video produced does show the jittery motion.

I have a C920 on a M1 Mini (16/512) connected through one of the USB ports on my monitor (Asus PA27AC) that is connected to the computer with Thunderbolt and I have had no problems with Zoom or Teams (I use Teams 99% of the time). Tried QuickTime and tried to record when I saw your post and had no poblems with that either. I can also use the camera if I use remote desktop to my work issued windows laptop (don't do that often to be honest).

Just as a sanity check go to system preferences security and privacy and under the privacy tab in the camera settings make sure that the (non apple) programs that you want to have access to the camera are checked so it isn't a privacy setting messing with you.
