I had a random thought about some of the old mac sites and remembered macnn from back in the day.

the main news site disappeared around 2015 or 2016, not sure, but the forum was up and running. Using the wayback machine it looks like the forums went down some time at the beginning of April

I'm actually surprised the forums were still running nearly 10 years after the main site closed down. Still sad to see it go.

Archive.org had a good portion of it archived. A lot of it is now mysteriously gone. Thanks internet archive! First forcing ruffle and now this!

I just clicked my long-dormant bookmark for MacNN. I got a mostly blank page. Just text in the upper left corner" "May return later"

If memory serves, this is the site dominated by a handful of people with a penchant for using crude language. A year or so ago is the last time I made an effort to visit the site regularly, and I was put off once again by this tendency.

Within the last couple of months they had to turn the forums off due to a massive influx of adbots. It was back up for a few days and then it's been off since then. Not sure if it's some kind of DDOS or targeted attack but a forum with like 10 active members seems like a weird target for ads.

MacRumors is pretty much all that is left, and it's only a very small percentage of pre iPhone users that are left here.

I've logged in everyday since the launch of the new iPhones/iOS26 glanced at the new threads, and posts, and then logged back out.

MacRumors is pretty much all that is left,
Discussion forums have largely died off, but there's still areas that are not macrumors that you can discuss macs for, including reddit which has many subs that offer apple, mac, and iphone discussions. I also think AppleInsider is still going
