macOS 10.12 & 10.13 - "Desktop" icon in Finder sidebar vanishing constantly

Finder is constantly removing my Desktop icon from the sidebar in my Favorites list. I use iCloud for Desktop and Documents, and Documents never vanishes, but Desktop constantly does, probably once per day on two different computers running 10.12 and 10.13. I have to go to iCloud Drive, drag and drop the Desktop back onto the sidebar, and occasionally do that twice because the first time I drag/drop it doesn't stick.

Any ideas?

You may want to try adding it back through Finder » Preferences in the menu bar, then check to show the Desktop in the sidebar section.

If that doesn't work, it's possible something is wrong with the preferences for the sidebar. If you delete the file at ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist, then restart, it should initialize the sidebars back to default, then try again.
