Is it correct to say that with macOS 10.15 it is not possible anymore to configure Mail in a way that I see my mail folders (called "Mailboxes") on the left, the list of mails lon the right on top, the content of mails below that and - most importantly! - in the list all the columns that I want, especially "From" AND "To."

For me it is not enough to see in which Mailbox a mail is, I want to see the exact recipient email address to which an email was directed. That seems to be not anymore possible, just like it seems not to be anymore possible to adjust the column widths to my liking.

PS: If Apple really maimed Mail as described above - what are the best alternatives in your opinion?

Apple, in their infinite wisdom, removed the "Classic View" option in Mail in Catalina (macOS 10.15). This article talks about how to change settings to recover most of that view. Use at your own risk, as I have not tried these changes.
