This has been present since macOS 12 and iOS 15 and it's driving me insane that Apple isn't fixing it. It's present on my iPad, 2 iPhones, MacBook Air M1, and my Mac Studio.

Basically, sometimes when I send a message it will convert the recipient's name with their phone number or when I receive a message, it will list the recipient's phone number instead of their name despite this information being in Contacts. I feel like Messages is not properly comparing data with Contacts to display a person's name instead of their phone number.

If I quit Messages and restart it, the person's name will appear instead of their phone number.

Same thing here, it is very irritating.

Reviving this thread to see if anyone has found any solutions. @fisherking stated this wasn't an issue for him and that other people may have found a solution (link: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macos-13-3-rc-bug-fixes-changes-and-more.2384357/post-32053954 ).

If anyone has experienced this and has found a solution, would love to figure out a way to resolve this.

Things tried so far: signed out of iCloud on ALL devices then reenabled it, turned off/on Messages Cloud Sync on all devices, upgraded all iOS/macOS devices to latest software. I've also signed out of Messages on all devices and signed back in.

Despite this, it is still occurring. I have Advanced Data Protection enabled, but it was occurring before then.

Any tricks to help resolve this? It's very annoying. If a message has the phone number and is stored in contacts, if I quit Messages and restart on macOS (or force quit on iOS and restart), the name will be properly displayed.
