Additional Notes
  • Please know, Memory Management has always been an issue on any OS (not just Apple's). If you believe there is a Memory Leak, please go to the Apple Menu > Restart > Restart to fix it.

Issues that stay in Untested for 3 releases (beta or smooth) will be removed from all future threads. When there is a new macOS release, please be sure to let us know about the issue's status by moving it to either "Remaining Issues" or "Resolved Issues"

Careful on trying to install the RC while your Mac is connected to an external monitor. My Mac stopped displaying anything on the internal or external displays. It was completely unresponsive to inputs and I had to hard shutoff and try again (so holding the power button did actually shut it down, but there was just no visual or audio indication other than pressing the power button again after 10s or so triggered bootup). It did this for beta 2 for me too. It might have still been updating but there was no way to tell.

Trying to update my MacBook Pro M5 from 26.0.1 to 26.1, but the download keeps failing after several seconds with the error message:

macOS could not be downloaded.
Make sure you're connected to
the internet and try again, or
contact Apple support for
assistance.
An error occurred while
downloading the selected updates.
Please check your internet
connection and try again.

Am I the only one?

I haven't been able to update to 26.1 RC on the M5 MacBook Pro. Just noticed it's not in the list above. That does mean it's really not supported, at least with the RC version?

I’m see the same error. Tired everything. Must be a M5 issue.

Wake from sleep used to feel sludgy and ragged in 26.0.1. Just woke my M1 Max MacBook Pro from sleep after leaving it alone for about 75 minutes clamshell closed and no power connected and its still at 100% and the wake was smooth as butter. Really as smooth as it's ever been. This is promising and I don't want to get my hopes up too much.

I got the exact same error on my M5 MBP too. Guess there’s gonna be an RC2 / official release with an incremented build number next week.

Music app is completely broken for me

I don't use it but it hogs the file association for all sound related extensions so I'd double click something and up pops Music and it just spins and spins and never loads the file or plays any sound

My Music app opened even twice after the reboot. Only offline music is working.

Everything in here:

Is just showing this:

Also still Dark Mode is not working anymore for most parts of macOS especially all apps from Apple.

The strange thing is this already happened in Beta 3 when my Mac woke up and Beta 4 had just been released a few hours ago but not downloaded or installed, there wasn't even an indicator on the System Settings icon yet, I only saw on YouTube that a new Beta had been released.

Before me and my Mac went to sleep Dark Mode worked normal.

I switched on hide Menu Bar and can't undo it anymore. It's always disappearing again with every setting. I haven't tried another reboot since this happened.

Sorry guys, this is a rant.. just downloaded and installed public beta of 26.1: I have to say that the difference between glass and tinted is barely discernible.. utterly useless.
On another note, I need to vent because Mac OS 26 has been a total let down, total let down starting from the toyish round corners everywhere to the blinding white of windows and last but not least for the Launchpad demise.
Sorry guys, I needed to say. Thanks!

Mission Control and spotlight is so laggy and has a poor frame rate on Tahoe. Was super smooth on macOS sequoia.

M2 MacBook with 16GB ram.

How is performance in this release? Any smoother or still frame rate issues?

Anecdotally, 26.1 RC feels better than 26.0 or 26.0.1 did on my base 15 inch M2 Air.

I don't use MC, but multitasking windows and scrolling in Safari feels smoother.

I think they better optimized it and possibly updated the graphics drivers to be less crappy.
