Maps offers a nice set of directions to get from where I am to where I want to go: turn here, turn there, etc. I'd like to make a text file that I can print to carry with me. But I can't select the text in the directions. There's a Share to Notes option under File, but that just copies the map, not the directions. Do I have to type out all the directions manually?

The only way I have ever figured out how to save the directions is to print them or save as PDF.

I've been able to do it, but it sometimes formats a bit weird.
And, I just realized, I'm doing it from Google Maps, not Apple Maps.

Thanks. Yeah, can copy the text from Google Maps, which is good, but must reformat it to print. Also Google Maps gives a different route than Apple Maps; the latter is better, IMO.

Thanks. Yeah, I see it can be printed, but includes the whole map (2 pages in this case), which I don't need. But Apple Maps gives a different, shorter (though more obscure) route than Google Maps. (And I try to avoid Google stuff, though I do use their translator a lot – in Brave.)

So here's what I did: made a screenshot of the directions in Apple Maps, ran it through online OCR, in 10 seconds I have the text, which I can format and print on a little sheet of paper.

PS: Funny, I asked the same question at Apple Community, but have had no response there at all. That's been my experience for some years ago: this forum is much better to get help. The Apple world has changed since I got my first computer, a Mac Plus, in 1988.

Use the web version of Apple Maps. Copy and paste the directions from there. Or if you use another browser, select the steps/text and print the selected text. (Safari is pretty much the only browser that lacks this handy feature.)

Thanks, hadn't thought of that. Works in Brave and Safari, my primary browsers. Funny it doesn't work in the macOS app.
