Hi everyone, I have already posted this question on unsupported mac section, but I think is probably better and appropriate open a specific thread.
My macbook pro mid 2009 can't boot from any usb installation drive, this happen passing from a official installation of Yosemite to High Sierra and now on Catalina.
Usb works on running OS, but startup mac with Alt/Option don't show any drive, except EFI Boot. if I click the arrow system start normally, but so I can format my drive or reinstall an other installation of macos.
Any solution?

Try a SMC reset, the latest Catalina update didn't fix it for me. Still goes to the internal drive for the first boot, if I then restart it goes to USB
