I need advice, please. My Macbook Pro is 3-1/2 years old. I reinstalled Word for Mac 2011 to see if doing this would solve my problem and it did not.. PROBLEM: Word doc files that were loading fine yesterday are now giving me the message: "Word was unable to find the document .....docx. Would you like to locate it yourself?" I did find one of the files under "document" with an unfamiliar look to it. It would not open as well. Thank you.

I have doubts that the problem you are having is because of HS 10.13.5. Here are some suggestions... Re-check your file locations for your MS Word documents again. You might still be looking in the wrong folder(s). You should be able to find the files. See if you can re-configure Word 2011 for Mac file view settings to see those documents. If you still can't find them then make sure you are updated to the most recent version of Word for Mac 2011 that you have. There may have been a change in the way that Word 2011 accesses MS Word documents or there was a docx conversion to a more updated format and your older Word 2011 for Mac original installation may not support the newer updated format so it can't fully recognize the those stored documents.

It's unfortunate that Word 2011 for Mac is no longer officially supported by MS (Word 2016 for Mac is currently supported by MS and Word 2019 is coming soon) but you still might be able to find a newer Word 2011 for Mac installation file or an update to it that you can do. You could try contacting MS with your original install code and ask them to direct you how to get a newer Word 2011 for Mac update even though it's MS support has officially ended. The last Word 2011 for Mac updated version that I know that was available was version 14.7.7. I know this because I still am using it with MacOS 10.13.5 High Sierra.

Sounds like file corruption which might be why Word is failing to find or recognize the documents. Check your hard drive or SSD by booting to recovery and run Disk Utility First Aid. Also see if you can create a test document with Word.
