Hey

I have an issue where my Mac keeps saying that my external drive wasn't disconnected properly. I only ever see this message when I wake the Mac up from sleep, so it's either happening during sleep mode or when I wake the Mac.

Sometimes it doesn't happen for days and then I can have the same message several times after one wake up.

Im running the latest version of MacOS Sequoia. My Mac is a M4 Mac mini and the external drive is a 2TB Samsung T7 drive connected via USB Type C.

If I remember correctly I also had this issue with my MacBook Air when it was my main machine in dock mode.

Any fixes out there or alternative solutions?

Yeah, its a thing. A known thing. Has been for awhile. And yeah, not consistent.

I have a couple of SSD drives and USB thumb drives connected up, and waking up the Mac might result in the disconnect warning and / or require me to reboot for the Mac to 'see' them again.

I found a resolution to the problem on another thread - I think on MacRumors Forums - in the form of the app Jettison.
It automatically ejects the drives when going to sleep and then restores them upon waking. Its not free (but does have a free trial), but for the price, I found it well worth it.

Been happening since I bough my iMac M3 when it first came out and running Mac OS 14 and now 15. What I did to stop it from happening is never let the iMac Sleep anymore. Besides when it's idle and screen is off, I believe it only draws 5watt or less just sitting there. The fan will keep spinning though, but very slow so you won't even hear it at all. Still it's always on. if I enable sleep again, my SSD drives will eject randomly.

Thanks, I will have a look at those options.

I have only noticed it with my apple silicon Macs though. Can't remember having this issue with my intel based ones
