Apple's macOS surpasses 10% desktop OS share in China for the first time ever

According to Statcounter data, Apple macOS's market share of desktop operating systems in China topped 10 percent for the first time in March 2025, with stats showing its share growing from 7.05 percent in December 2024 all the way to 10.22 percent in April of this year.

Statistics from January 2009 show that Apple's macOS share in China previously peaked at 9.94 percent in April 2020, and has never exceeded 10 percent in its history. In addition, while Microsoft Windows has always had a dominant market share in China, the overall trend has been a very slow decline over the past 15 years.

State subsidy policies implemented since last year have provided 20% off discounts for consumers buying computers including Apple's Mac products, such as the starting price of the new M4 Macbook Air from RMB 7,999 to RMB 5,799 with education discounts, and the starting price of the new M4 Mac mini from RMB 4,499 to RMB 2,999 with education discounts. Additionally, on October 31st of last year, Apple announced for the first time that it would increase the starting memory capacity of the Mac lineup from 8GB to 16GB, without changing the price.
