Apple Releases First Public Beta of macOS Mojave 10.14.4

Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming macOS Mojave 10.14.4 update to its public beta testing group, a few days after seeding the beta to developers and a week after releasing macOS Mojave 10.14.3.

The macOS Mojave update can be downloaded using the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store after downloading the appropriate profile from Apple's beta testing website. Apple's beta testing site gives users access to iOS, macOS, and tvOS betas.

macOS Mojave 10.14.4, along with iOS 12.2, introduces support for Apple News in Canada for the first time, allowing Canadian users to read the news in French or English.

The update also includes support for Touch ID-enabled Safari AutoFill and automatic Dark Mode themes in Safari. That means if you have Dark Mode enabled on macOS Mojave, when you visit a website with a dark theme, it will be activated automatically. You can see a demo of the feature here.

macOS Mojave 10.14.4 will likely be in beta testing for the next several weeks as Apple refines features and works out bugs. After that, it will see a release alongside iOS 12.2, watchOS 5.2, and tvOS 12.2.

I used to jump on betas for several years. So many headaches, I am not sure it's worth unless you really try to do things or you have a spare machine for it just to have fun.

To be honest, since Snow Leopard, maybe only Mavericks was worth the testing.... but overall it's your call, depending on your use-case.

My suggestion is to install the latest update when it comes out, and then stay away for betas :) makes your life easier.

A beta should always be installed on a second partition or disk. It should never replace your primary installation. Creating a second partition is easy using Disk Utility. A second APFS partition conveniently shares free space with your primary partition.

Of course it should but that doesn't mean it always is :))

It all boils down to why do you need to use the beta? Some wanna have fun, others want to try features and test and others - less inspired like me - just install on primary :))

I haven't done any more betas since a long time though and I don't plan to anymore unless there is a proper reason or the new OS is so drastically changed that I gotta try :)
 
The problem is that if you have it on another partition, you’ll never try it for real. Only when you work on it you see all problems that may exist.

I’m doing beta testing myself and it’s all on my primary machine. And yes - sometimes the headache isn’t worth it...

You can use CCC to clone your primary disk with all your work apps and then apply the beta update to the clone.
 
I’m hoping they’ll be fixing a couple of issues which I’ve reported.

Apple Watch auto-unlock doesn’t work when switching user accounts on my Mac. This hasn’t worked for ages.

I’m also having an issue with the screensaver starting when watching movies in full screen on iTunes.

Time will tell.

I use VMware Fusion for Mac to test and use Beta versions... it works well for me.
 
unfortunately as much as I like Mojave
I am living and experiencing the NVidia web drivers nightmare

I'm not going to jump into the blaming game on who's fault it is
there are many reasons and speculations and I'm not going there either

I just will like to have NVidia driver support, so I can fully enjoy the system
please don't tell me to get an AMD card is not going to happen, I rather burn in hell or even worse
use windows

I'm still optimistic
10.14.6 or 10.15

no one wants to buy old technology or outdated products

yes bought one but i didn’t like it
too small and ugly even the best looking ones

also while the performance might be all right in mac os because apple optimize their software for AMD cards, the AMD cards sucks in windows for gaming, also no ray tracing, i rather wait, i use mojave once in a while without graphic aceleration when i can’t stand windows anymore, i only use windows for gaming but i don’t like windows

It broke it for me, too. So after two days I set up Screenshot (⇧⌘5) to record so I could report it to Feedback Assistant and— You got it: Fixed!

Nvidia has no official support for Pascal Turning and Volta cards. It’s a beta driver with bugs and no 10 bit HDR color support. When Nvidia announces they have a final driver then Apple can make a decision.

Also, the web driver performance is really mixed. The GTX 1080 is performing like a Radeon 580 level.

The good news is that there is Vega VII drivers in 10.14.4 beta. It will have full support, HDR support, RTX 2080 performance level, and you don’t have headache of updating driver every time there is an OS update.

Facebook has been sluggish as h*ll since a couple of betas ago.

With sluggish I mean; it loads really slow, when opening conversations it first display graphical boxes, and then the text. Open Facebook takes approximately 10 seconds.

Is it just me, or is something effed up with the beta?
