macOS Portrait mode vs Meet/Teams/Zoom blur function

I've been using macOS's built in Portrait mode for video calls on Meet, Teams, and Zoom. I find it's more subtle and does a better job with edges. I also wondered whether macOS is more efficient in processing the effect than the third party apps (perhaps even more so in my case using a Studio Display if its A13 actually does the work?). Would be curious from people who have more of a technical background whether that's likely to be the case?
