This makes little sense to me.

I have a USB disk (FAT32) which mounts and show the correct name in Finder, but in Disk Utility and Terminal it is mounted as “No name”. I can replicate this with a disk image that mounts a FAT32 volume.

My problem is that I use an AppleScript that check if this particular disk exists, which have worked well for years. Now in Sequoia that is no longer the case.

Have anyone else noticed this? Is it a bug in Sequoia?

I can't replicate in Sequoia 15.1.1
hdiutil create -size 100mb -fs FAT32 -volname FAT32 FAT.dmg
hdiutil attach FAT.dmg
fat32.jpg

Thank you for trying this.

I tried the exact same command and created a new FAT.dmg from Terminal, then I double clicked the FAT.dmg in Finder and it behaved exactly like I described with "FAT32" shown in Finder and "NO NAME" in Get Info and Terminal.

Then I ejected the disk and tried mounting it with "hdiutil attach FAT.dmg" and it showed "FAT32" everywhere. If I eject again and now double click in Finder to mount it, it continues to show "FAT32" as the name everywhere.

Right now I can't get any dmg to show "NO NAME" again, so I don't know what is going on. This is very weird and must be some kind of bug.

The very first time it happened I was on another machine at a friend's house, so it is not just my system that is bugged.

Not sure what I can do, if I can no longer replicate it. I will keep trying.

Update:
A day later and I just tried creating a disk image from Terminal again. This is how it looks in Finder:
GetInfoNoName.png

I haven't done anything with the computer since I tried this yesterday, it has just been sleeping, so this is really weird.

When I create disk images in Sequoia Disk Utility the two FAT choices are:

1. exFAT: This mounts and shows in Finder Get Info with "Format: exFAT" and whatever name was given.

2. MS_DOS (FAT): This mount and shows in Finder Get Info with "Format: MS-DOS (FAT16)" and "NO NAME" as the name. But the name in Finder's list of mounted volumes is correct.

I don't know how you created your MS-DOS (FAT32) - maybe a previous version of macOS. But it does seem that MS-DOS (FATxx) show in Get Info as NO NAME.

If this bothers you, you can change it in Get Info and whatever you choose will become the name of the disk everywhere. For consistency use a name all in capitals.

In general I would recommend exFAT, but you may have a reason for wanting MS-DOS (FATxx).
