macOS Sierra 10.12.1 started ejecting external drive

Since installing the latest .1 release my system ejects the external firewire Seagate drive. Literally every time it goes to "sleep" it drops the drive, Didn't do this in the beta versions as much. Any ideas how to get around this? (It's a late 2010 27" iMac)
