Hi Everyone,

I'm running a bit low on disk space on MacOS Sequoia on my M1 MacBook Air. Are there any temp files / folders I can clear out? Same with cache folders?

I know on Windows, I would just use Disk Cleanup, but I don't believe a utility exists on the MacOS side to do something similar.

Thanks in advance for the time and help, it is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Asif

{~,}/Library/{Cache,Logs} can be deleted. As well as /tmp and /private/var/tmp.

You could check for the AI junk inside /System/Library/AssetsV2, they're a few GB in size.

Don't forget to delete local TM snapshots, if you use TM.

That is not TOO much, for as far as accessible. I can only delete 800Mb.
And, I don't dare to ...
;JOOP!

If you know of or read Howard Oakley at the Eclectic Light Company web site, he STRONGLY recommends not deleting log files on the Mac, and wrote a whole article on it in response to a question from me where I did it, and saw a minor side effect I was asking him about!

What he said in reply to me was this:

Don, I strongly discourage you from 'cleaning' log files. macOS has its own
service logd that does that automatically and at frequent intervals. It
doesn't need any help.

Then in the next day or two he wrote a whole article about it (claiming in the comments it was just not me lol):

I highly recommend reading the article - it's very informative and may change your mind on deleting log files.

Not only is his web site, eclecticlight.co, a great site for Mac tech users, it seems to me that every article is explaining the "why" and "how" of the internals of MacOS. I have learned a ton reading the articles (and yes, a lot goes over my head lol).

On a related note - Howard is a very interesting guy - Now and for quite awhile he has been a Mac developer, but in his past he attended Oxford, and was a career doctor and eventually Surgeon Commander for the British Royal Navy - Dr. Howard Oakley actually. Yet a very down-to-earth guy, he answers just about every comment to his articles personally. Here's an interesting interview/podcast with him, if you like his stuff:
