I am planning to upgrade to Ventura when it reaches 13.3 (at least).

Will be upgrading 2 Intel-based Macbook Pro laptops (2020 edition, 2.3 GHz). Both are running Big Sur 11.7.1 - very stable.

Two options:

- Upgrade in place or
- Clean install Ventura and then migrate apps / data using Migration Assistant from SSD clone created by SuperDuper!

Any experience with Migration Assistant in Ventura?

migrated from time machine, from a 2016 12" macbook; no apps, but everything else. worked beautifully. a few things to configure (and some photos i had deleted years ago showed up in Photos!), but otherwise fine.

Still trying to migrate (using Migration Assistant) 2014 Macbook Pro running High Sierra to new 2022 Mackbook Air M2.

First attempt over Wifi failed (hung) after 4 hours. It said it had transferred 5000 of 700000 files. Nothing was there on reboot. Second attempt over Thunderbolt failed after 2 hours. It said it had transferred 360,000 of the 700000 files. Still, nothing was there on reboot.

"Factory erased" the M2 Air and am reinstalling Ventura via WiFi (it says it will take 3.5 hours). Next attempt will be using a fresh Time Machine backup.

I've never had this much difficulty with a new Mac in 20+ years and 20+ Macs.

700000 photos? can you clean up your source mac before doing a migration? that is a LOT of photos... 😳

anyway, a time machine drive connected directly to the new mac should work; faster, more stable connection...

migrated from late 2013 MBP to studio running ventura using migration with almost no problems. 700k photos is small to some I know of.

I used Migration assistant to go from a late 2015 27" Mac to the Mac Studio. In retrospect I should have done my homework a little better. The Thunderbolt 4 cable I purchased was not compatible with the ports on the 27" so I could not use the cable. I used a USB cable and it took 14 hours to migrate. Everything went well overall, but there are always a few "gotchas' that pop up in the weeks following. All were resolvable.

I did have one peculiar issue afterwards and that was a terribly sluggish Internet connection. I tried everything I could think of and even called my provider -all to no avail. A lot of sites I use on a regular bais were timing out before I could access them. I ran across a post on Mac Rumors that cited the Beta version of "Private Relay" as being a possible culprit. I turned it off and my connection returned to what it had been before. i do not think this is a common occurrence, but I include it as a cautionary note. Good luck
