macOS wifi roaming

Now that wifi mesh networking has proliferated into the home, when can we (ever) expect roaming to the strongest AP point on the Macs? All the iOS devices work nicely in my home's mesh, connecting to the stronger signal usually in the room where my mesh node is, but not my MBP. When I go downstairs within 10 ft of a mesh node I have to turn off/on wifi to get the better performance.
