I have an older MacPro 2006 Intel and the CD/DVD drive is getting rusty, doesn't close well etc. I would like to replace it. Can someone refer me to a good place to find parts?

Thanks in advance,

OWC sells them. They have great support and specialize in Macs in case you have questions or problems.

That being said, as Cindori mentioned, any standard optical drive should work. But I believe Mac Pro's older than the 2009 model use PATA drives as standard. There are SATA ports on the motherboard underneath the optical drive bays, but they won't work in Windows.

PATA and IDE are the same thing. and SATA drives will work under Windows if you install drivers for the ODD Sata ports.

Note though, you will not be able to boot from a drive connected to the ODD SATA ports.

So basically, look for the cheapest/best IDE optical drive at your closest PC store.

Ahh didn't know that, thanks for the clarification!
