MacPro 3,1 display port adapter issue?

I have a MacPro 3,1 with a 5770 graphics card.

I had been using a mini display port to DVI adapter, with no issues to display a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 (1080p). Last night I needed to change the adapter out to a mini display port to vga adapter (old monitor died).

The issue is now my mac will not let me select a 1080p or 1920 x 1080p resolution.

Any suggestions?
