Any wise words of wisdom appreciated. After doing a separate drive update to Monterey (keeping my old systems intact for dual boot) the usb ports no longer works with usb1. I use this rig for music with Protools and several audio interfaces and a 24 channel moving fader control surface (Tascam US-2400) which is usb1.

This computer is full of UAD pcie cards and I need to keep it backwards compatible

I have used a usb splitter dongle which does light the US-2400 up but it doesn't work well enough functionally unfortunately.

I have a couple macbook pros as well from this era (2008) and they both run the US-2400 fine after opencore updates, so it's some kind of issue only with the macpro 3,1.

I need to be able to figure out a way to make this work properly.

Thank you for your thoughtful suggestions.

Ahh!! I had a breakthrough! Looking at the "about this mac" system I noticed that it said that the macpro had a usb hub in the keyboard, so I plugged in the Control surface into the keyboard instead of the usb ports on the machine and voila! It works properly. If anyone else is having usb1 issues this might be the solution.
