MacPro as Nas server?

Hi all

does anyone use a MacPro as a Nas server here? I have a HP Microserver but can get a cheap MacPro (2.66hz Xeon) from a friend. Thinking of adding 4x4TB WD Red drives and 1 SSD for boot.

All I need it for is running Plex server and iTunes. Only thing is I dont think it supports Mavericks as it maybe before 2008 model, will need to check

Perfectly doable, but probably overkill since your power bill will be higher than it has to be.

True. Whats the noise like on them? Thats my main issue the HP is in the bedroom and nearly as quiet as my Mini.

It's not loud compared to a lot of systems, but it's audible in a quiet room and over very quiet music. Definitely much louder than a Mac Mini, which is virtually silent.
