Some things to consider:

A 2008 Mac Pro was £1,749 new full retail price. They came with 320GB drives, so if it does have a 250GB drive they have removed the stock drive and replaced it with something else. Although Apple's memory pricing probably put it at £2,300 retail don't use that price for anything. an extra 2GB of memory is currently under £60. With student discount or refurb pricing you could get that system direct from Apple for under £1,600.

As for performance, well you are buying old tech but you get the 8 real cores. You are probably better off trying to get a refurb quad 2.66GHz if you aren't in a hurry (check every day).
