1. Has there been any updates to the new generation of MacPro since the first one came out?
2. For doing Premiere and After Effects does anyone have any idea of how a new maxed out iMac will compare in terms of performance to a new MacPro with similar ram, processor, graphics card, etc.

Thanks.

1. Nope still the same version

2. It depends, If your editing 1080p videos that don't really exceed 10min the iMac will be ok for this. The nMP will be able to do it for a little longer faster as it has better cooling solutions.

3. Your better off getting a 4,1 or 5,1 for the same cost you can have some thing that can edit 4k feature films and CUDA capabilities which would be better long term investment.
