I'm generally more of a loner, but I've been mulling this over for years now and I think it's about time I get some other opinions. Since Apple decided I should have to buy a brand new computer in order to keep getting updates pretty much right after I bought this beast used (~2010) I've been manually fixing bugs and security leaks since. Still on El Capitan, in the last couple years every time I use it I've had to spend about a week figuring out fixes for things to keep it running the latest software, games, browsing the internet, et cetera. I've more than had enough of it, and I'm ready to give up on this OS and get something else.

Of course I knew since the beginning crack-updating to 10.12 and manually installing back in my wifi driver was possible, but it seemed like a lot of work at the time. Everything still worked on 10.11 at first, and things broke slowly making it just a little more work to fix it each time. I'm sure now there are methods for even newer OS's available too.

I've also read that Windows 10 supports these old intel Macs, but my 2008 model doesn't have bootcamp. Maybe I could burn the iso to a partition and boot from that, but I'd probably need to manually install some needed drivers on my motherboard or something to make it work. I've heard Linux Mint is another option, but I'm not sure how useful that would be.

I could probably get some version of Unix as well. Learning a new OS sounds annoying though, so updating to a newer Mac OS or Windows would be preferred. Recommendations?
