MP 1,1-5,1 MacPro5,1 & Big Sur 11.0.1 beta - mac just shuts down after about 60s of booting but never actually loads

I did the BigMac patcher (https://github.com/StarPlayrX/bigmac) onto an external USB drive. I thought it didn't work b/c when I tried to boot from the finished product, while I would get the startup chime, I'd just get a black screen for maybe 60s then my mac would just shut off completely.

But I just booted from the same drive on a 2013 Macbook pro and... it fired right up into the BigSur setup menu, so it looks like it worked just fine.

Any ideas on why my MacPro5,1 won't boot into Big Sur, knowing that the install looks like it worked fine at least? TTIA
