Am I the only one wondering why the Magnifier from accessibility is unable to utilize macro mode? Or am I missing something? I’ve switched to using the Camera app for now, but curious why this functionality couldn’t have been carried over to Magnifier as well.

Magnifier’s purpose in Accessibility is to zoom in on things nearby for those with less than great vision.
The Macro feature on the iPhone 13 is there to take pictures of stuff an inch or so away.

Right. And the thing I used to use Magnifier for was for reading tiny text on things like power bricks, motherboards, etc. At some point, either after the iPhone X (or it could have been with a newer iOS version), the ability to autofocus on items that close went away. Macro mode returned that autofocus capability back — they should have carried it over to the Magnifier as well

Out of curiosity, if this is the only purpose - why does the Magnifier allow you to select between the rear and front camera? What is the purpose of using this app with the front camera? You should also be able to choose the wide angle/macro.

For what it’s worth, Apple has added this in the betas for iOS 15.4. If you press the camera icon while using the Magnifier, you are now given the choice between “Auto”, “Close-up”, or “Front”
