Maybe the MR team are all over this (or maybe I've missed an earlier discussion), but...

Apple are now going to be making TV Shows - the details are sketchy at the moment but doubtless there will soon be trailers and plot leaks and backstage gossip and at least one actor or crew member will get into a scandal... Then the service will actually start and there will be reviews, criticism, plot speculation, slash fanfiction.... and, if all that turns up on MR, endless grumbling from people more interested in what processor will be in the next iMac.

It seems to me that this is unlike any development that has gone before - even with the diversification from Macs to phones and watches (even the 'car') the site remains generally about tech gadgets. Apple Music may exist, but Apple isn't producing its own music, so there is little temptation for people to come here to discuss Taylor Swift's love life.

If Apple gets even a couple of hit TV shows (although I'm sceptical I wouldn't bet heavily against them) they could generate a huge volume of announcements and discussion.

So my question is - should MacRumors be a place for news and discussion about AppleTV+ content?

If 'no' then should this be established, and people politely directed to other sites, as soon as possible before it gets started?

If 'yes' then should appropriate forums - and maybe a separate front page - be created sooner rather than later to anticipate this?

Personally I think "banning" the subject is ultimately a decision for the MR owners, but if it is going to happen I think there should be some sort of separation so it doesn't overwhelm more traditional topics and could be split off into a sibling site if it gets huge.

We will likely revisit the forum structure, not just for the TV shows, but also for the other new services. We were planning on doing some streamlining anyway, and as part of that we'll make sure there are logical places to discuss all of this. Discussion of Apple TV+ content is perfectly appropriate in the forums, as are most topics related or unrelated to Apple.

On the news side, we'll continue to cover Apple's TV shows as we have right along throughout their development. We have no intention of becoming an "episode recap" blog once these shows come out, and we don't anticipate the stories about them we do cover will be an overly significant part of our coverage, at least in the short-term. If something happens over the long-term to change that, we'll make adjustments accordingly.
