Would anyone be interested in a friendly community competition?

I saw something like this on MacNN:

We gather up four or five teams, set a start date, and an end date. The team that scores the most points within that time is declared the winner.

Perhaps someone here has an even better idea? Or can we build on this and make it even better? Suggestions are welcome!

Does anyone have the extra time to help provide stats? I'd be willing to pitch in where I can.

Anyone willing to help pitch in, let me know. And we'll start to organize something. If you are at all interested, please reply here, and if we have enough interest, we'll see if we come up with something.

I think you are thinking that I was saying 4 or 5 other F@H teams, where as I meant, we gather people from out team and make like sub-teams for the competition. Some one would just see how many points every person on their team does for a day and adds them up and then each day we report who has how many points, and at the end the team with most points during the allocated time, wins.

Does that make more sense?

I agree with you there, but I was thinking of making [from suggestions] 5 [could be more depends on how many people and what kind of ideas we get] teams, each one with a category of some kind. And people can choose what team suits their liking the best.

So I guess maybe there should be a vote as to what kind of teams there should be. If someone wants to come up with ideas for teams and names, let me know.

No new ideas anyone? Any interest at all? I would have thought a little friendly competition would have everyone raging to go!

Come on folders! Let's have some fun!

Sounds good to me. How about

1) Students
2) Art/Video/Sound/Web designers
3) Computer tech & programmers
4) Grab bag of everyone else

or
East coast USA vs West coast vs world

The East vs. West vs. World seems kind of unfair, as I recall seeing most FAH users are on the east coast. I can't say it represents the Mac user community.

The others are getting there though. Great ideas.

1) Students
2) Professional [Arts]
3) Professional [Tech]
4) Misc.

Each team could pick an official team name. Any volunteers to keep track of stats? They would have to add up each teams daily stats. Post them, and perhaps we should have a set time limit? 1 month? And a recruiting time limit? 1 week? Set rosters, no new members after this date kinda deal.

Any other ideas?

You would have to base it on the number of CPUs one had under their control. Thats really the only measurement that counts. I would say everyone go with a 1 CPU, 2CPU ( for duals), 4 CPU, ( for 2 duals ), and leave it at that. Dudes that have 30 or 40 CPUs under their spell could go into a unlimited category.

most points in a week would make the most sense to me.

Regardless, there's just too many variables to make it "fair" so everyone would have to relax and just run what you brung kinda mentality.

I'll stack my Dual 1.8 and my 3000+ against 4 CPU's just for fun. :)

Why not just have everyone who wants sign up , take the list to EOC and divide it into teams by looking a the POWER of each so they are all about the same , give each team a color or animal name and go for a week....

That actually sounds like a decent idea...

I'll start the list of people who want to participate.

Copy and paste the list in your post, and add your fah username:

I don't have much processing power, but I'll join in. :)

3. MacFan25

Add me to the list, although I think the teams are shaping up as twiztidn8v versus the rest :).

Why thanks MrMacMan,

I've got seven machines on this team and I have one machine on a team I created for future possibilities. [ Should Stanford ever reset the stats! ;-) ]

looks like we have five people so far, perhaps if we can get at least ten, then we can split it up into two teams? Unless a huge interest is suddenly found! It was rollin' for a second there! Come on guys and gals! Where are ya! We want some competition!

Hey guys count me in. I'm not sure what strategy to use. I think this could get ugly if I I'm forced to sneak into a corporate building and comendier all their PC's. :)

Wow I had totally forgot all about this thread! I would still love to do it. But there seems little interest, but from a few people. I think it would be alot of fun tho.
