For this week's giveaway, we've teamed up with RAVPower to offer MacRumors readers a chance to win a 90W 2-Port Wall Charger that works with the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPad Pro, and more.

Priced at $50 with Amazon discounts, the RAVPower power adapter features dual USB-C ports and a 90W total output that's able to charge all of Apple's devices, from MacBooks to iPads.

Design wise, the Wall Charger is a simple square shape that measures in at 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches, with a thickness that's just over an inch, so it's smaller and lighter than the original 87W power adapter that comes with a 15-inch MacBook Pro.

GaN technology keeps it more compact than a traditional charger, making it ideal for travel thanks to both the size and the double ports. An LED light displays the charging status of the power adapter.

At 90W, the RAVPower Wall Charger is able to charge up to the 15-inch MacBook Pro at full speed, and while it's less power than the 96W power adapter that ships with the 16-inch MacBook Pro, it will still charge, but a bit slower. It is able to charge a 15-inch MacBook in just over two hours, or a 13-inch MacBook Pro in under two hours.

With two ports, it's able to charge multiple devices at one time. Charging a single device you can get the full 90W, and with multiple devices, the power is split between them depending on the power needs of what you're charging. Two-port outputs for the charger are outlined below:
  • Laptop + Laptop: 45W+ 45W
  • Laptop + Phone: 60W + 30W
  • Laptop + iPad 2017/2018/2019: 45W +30W
  • Laptop + Tablet (except iPad 2017/2018/2019): 60W +30W
If you have a MacBook Air or an iPad Pro, you can charge both models at full speed while also fast charging an iPhone using a Lightning to USB-C cable. Fast charging provides 50 percent battery life in approximately 30 minutes.

According to RAVPower, the power adapter features safe charging technology with protections from overcurrent, overdischarge, short circuiting, and high temperatures.

Or you can plug iPad into Macbook while it's charging. No need for an aftermarket power adaptor.

What wattage will a 16" MBP use? Will it get 90 Watts? Or something much less?

If it's 90 Watts, that should be enough. It's rare that I push my laptop hard enough, long-enough for 90 Watts not to be good enough...

Why are 15W lost for this combination?

Normally, the laptop should get what it needs up to 90W, and if it isn't using it all, and the battery isn't 100%, the battery should use the rest to charge. But which model MB had that article that it couldn't charge the battery while it was being used?

Cool! How is RAVPower compared to the Anker brand?
I have one of their smaller wattage PS and it is quite nice. I'd say it is as good as Anker or even Apple.

I am not an EE, but I wonder if it is a function of different current draws or resistance for iPads, tablets and phones resulting i a lower limit to avoid excessive heat generation?

I own and daily use this exact charger with my 16" MBP for the past 2 months now and it has no problem keeping it charged at 100% while rending After Effects projects. It also fast charges my 2018 12.9" iPad Pro.

If you want to wait forever especially the iPad 12.9 owners. I can only pull about 10 watts out of my usb c ports when charging my iPP.

I have an 85W Kensington TB3 dock and it keeps my 15" at 100% just fine as a point of reference.

I have several of these. They are fine. Current favorite is the 100W GaN HyperJuice though.
Is that the one from Sanho on Indiegogo? I ordered one but haven't got it. Glad to hear you like it.

Yeah that’s the one. I have 6 :) Very well built, small, and I’ve had no problems powering a MBP and a 12” iPad Pro simultaneously while also charging an iPhone and Apple Watch with the usb-c ports. I keep one in my messenger bag, two in my family travel kit, and have replaced a couple apple 87w chargers with them.

There are a *lot* of apple devices in my house, and when we aren’t in a worldwide pandemic there’s a lot of traveling, so having only to carry one of these for me, and another for my wife/child is an improvement. (I used to bring one of those 10-port usb-c anker things, plus a couple MBP bricks when the family travelled together).

Code is fussy - must use link in the article, and changing color to white reset something so code wouldn't work at checkout on Amazon.
