For this week's giveaway, we've once again teamed up with BlackPods to offer MacRumors readers a chance to win a AirPods that have been custom-painted in black or space gray. We've partnered with BlackPods to give away several sets of AirPods, and they're always our most popular giveaways.

If you haven't come across BlackPods before, the company takes a regular set of boring white AirPods and then paints them in one of three sleek, unique shades of black or gray using a proprietary painting system.

BlackPods uses a multi-phase painting process for a high-quality coating of paint that's not going to chip, fade, scuff, or otherwise get damaged from regular usage. Each set of BlackPods is completed by hand and given a rigorous inspection to ensure a flawless finish.

When BlackPods first launched, there were two colors -- the BlackPods Classic with a high-gloss finish and the BlackPods Stealth, with a matte satin finish -- but BlackPods this year introduced a stylish new Space Gray shade that has an iPhone-style metallic finish.

BlackPods cost $279 for the original high gloss finish or $299 for matte black or space gray, which is a $120+ premium over standard AirPods, but it's one of the only ways to get AirPods in a darker shade that better matches Apple's Space Gray iPhones.

If you already have AirPods, BlackPods has a service for the painting process alone. You can send in your AirPods and BlackPods will paint them for you. It takes about 10 days and it costs $99 to $119, with that price covering the cost of both the AirPods and the AirPods Charging Case.

BlackPods are repainted AirPods, so the full AirPods functionality remains intact, with a W1 chip for simple pairing, a long battery life, a built-in accelerometer for ear detection, iCloud support for device switching, and gesture support.

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, or to seem ungrateful, but those inspired by painted AirPods and who want to buy them if they don’t win them may want to look at ColorWare instead. I’ve read some complaints about paint precision and durability from BlackPods. They also bring the color right up to the ear hole instead of a round patch around it. I’m sure the winning pair will be perfect. ColorWare is a little more expensive but offers a huge color lineup, not just black or space gray.

I can’t speak to any of this personally, and I’m no shill for ColorWare, but I am eagerly awaiting my pair (they’re backlogged about two months) of matte black AirPods in a shiny Ferrari red case. I should be able to speak to their quality in about a month.

I'm shocked Apple isn't offering it's own versions, at least in the black color. It would be a crappy thing to do that would invite Apple mockery, but they could probably get away with charging a premium for black as well. The gold seems pretty unlikely though, although there are gold iPhones and iPads so who knows.

I want these so bad I even considered visiting the Facebook page, but nah, the other options are sufficient. Thanks MR! Fingers crossed.

I have a pair of the “regular” and “boring” AirPods and am not really interested in having AirPods that are even easier to lose. Black and gray colored small things seem like highly unintuitive colors for things that could easily fall into corners of bags, under couches, and who knows where else. Two days into owning my pair, I was sitting on a plane and dropped one of them under my seat. I could not see it anywhere. Luckily from her angle, the lady sitting behind me could and so she was polite enough to return it to me. Ever sine then I’ve been glad for the airpods being white. BlackPods should expand their colors to a spectrum that doesn’t include the colors of the night.

Plenty of people want the black and other colors of AirPods. With the amount of products that have come in black over the centuries, people know how to work around the "lost things" conundrum.;):D

They look much better as well. imo of course.

[doublepost=1522445528][/doublepost]These look great! Hope to win these.

I find it quite odd that Apple limit themselves by not offering alternative colours. I would be almost certain to buy a pair of black or grey/gunmetal ones if only to try, but there is absolutely zero chance of me buying the white ones.

I've seen a guy at work wearing his every day for months and still think they look utterly dreadful to me. I would have thought by now I would have gotten used to them / desensitised but no.

These offerings look much more appealing. They have out Apple'd, Apple.

In over 10 years, Apple never changed the color of their headphones. I don't they will start now. I like these so much better. This is the one I really hope I win. :)
