Congratulations to the MacRumors community for reaching yet another milestone, and this is a pretty big one as these things go: 500,000 threads. Yes, half a million, and only about a third of them are asking whether a glossy or matte display is better. ;)

Special congratulations go out to timmypv15 for posting the landmark thread. :)

Previous milestone discussion threads:
400,000
300,000
200,000
100,000

And, for the stat geeks, here are the time intervals that have been required to reach each 100,000-thread milestone:
500,000: 185 days
400,000: 230 days
300,000: 350 days
200,000: 522 days
100,000: 1333 days

Note that the statistics on the front page of the forums reflect a smaller number of threads for a variety of reasons, including deleted threads, merged threads, etc.

So the 500,000 figure is including the Wasteland/Deleted threads?

That surely shouldn't count..:p

Yes. Anytime a thread is created, it gets a unique ID number...that's the metric that has reached 500,000.

Whatever happens to the thread after that (deletion, Wastelanding, merging into another thread, etc.), that ID number is not reused.

I was curious how long it would be until the post rate reached 100,000 threads per day. But my abacus overflowed, so now I have to take it to the shop. I'm glad I bought AppleCare for it.

I'm sure once you get it back you will be able to calculate the critical mass for post count per day.
We want graphs Doctor, graphs I say...

Maybe you need to upgrade to an Abacus Pro! :D

Congrats to MacRumors for reaching this milestone, so according to what you have told us, at the time of creation of this thread, there have been roughly 15,905 threads merged, wastelanded, archived, deleted, ect (I took the thread ID of this thread and subtracted the number of threads listed on the main page from it). I would love to know the stats of that figure (i.e. what percentage were merged, wastleanded, ect.).
