One may logically assume that these two fan control software packages 'Macs Fan Control' and 'SSD Fan Control' are aimed at systems with HDD and SSD respectively. But is that really the case?
I've installed SSD's on several Mac laptops and also desktops - notably 2009-2011 iMacs, which certainly does improve the overall performance.
On one I did recently with the original HDD, I installed Macs Fan Control and manually set all 3 fan speeds higher in order to improve internal cooling. (Most of us are aware of Steve Jobs's take on keeping Macs as quiet as possible with fans running relatively slowly, often with medium-term detrimental effect on system components). Then with the original HDD removed and replaced with an SSD, Macs Fan Control was retained and still performs as expected.
It was then I asked myself should I now uninstall Macs Fan Control and replace it with SSD Fan Control?
I've not found any reviews that claim that one is better than the other, or more specifically if SSD Fan Control provides advantages for SSD's that Mac Fan Control doesn't. I suspect that the difference is just branding and in name only, but I could be wrong.
I'd be interested to hear of any claims that one is superior to the other especially with controlling systems with an SSD installed.
