For the record, i believe him. not sure what exactly he hoped to acomplish, but he's been an outspoken activist for children's rights and against the exploitation of children for some time.
Well - I believe him, too - although I consider his actions to be those of someone incredibly naiive.
I mean,
honestly - if he was intending to do some research for his book, surely he should have just gone to Scotland Yard, who have an extensive series of records and data regarding child pornography. I would think STATISTICS of occurrences dealing with the illegal access of child porn would have been sufficient, rather than to check accessibility first-hand. If he wanted to access these sites, it should have been done under the supervision of, or in conjunction with, the police unit assigned in dealing with offensive material. The publicity they would receive by working hand-in-hand with a prominent member of the society would have been welcomed by the Metropolitan Police, in their attempt to combat internet crime.
Finally, didn't he realise that giving his credit card details over the web to the site in question only encourages these slimy individuals to think that they're justified in delivering this type of content to the public by actually
funding their activities?!? What an idiot.
Sorry if I seem to be on my high-horse, but as the father of a 2-year old, my opinions on this matter are extremely vocal. And I'd wager that when those of you (who don't currently) eventually do have children, you too will have the same feelings on this issue that I do.
