I'm using Mac the Ripper for the first time to back up a couple of DVDs and it's giving me times that sound a little long.

Computer - Dual 2GHz G5, 4GB RAM, 16x Superdrive
Disc - 5.98GB total extraction

The quoted time with 158MB done is 1:16:32. I assumed it would be about half of that. Was I just aiming too high?

An hour to extract 160MB? It takes me about 20 minutes for a dvd. At least I think that's the case...definitely not as long as you're talking.

Sorry, bad wording I guess - an hour-fifteen to extract the rest of the disc after the 160MB (which was where it had gotten as of my first post). So 1:15 for 5.7GB, give or take.

That's odd. I'm on a Dual 1Ghz MDD with 768MB and it takes 50 minutes to do a full disc extraction on a 7GB DVD. Is the current version optimized for a G5?

I'm using 2.66 that I got off Version Tracker - the only information on v.3 I find is beta testing (requiring a donation) - has it been released?

It wound up taking 1:19 for all 6 GBs.

It's barely even tasking my processor - I bounce between 84% idle and 93% idle (running Safari, MacTheRipper and Activity Monitor) - is that about normal?

EDIT - Truly strange. The second disc of the TV set (3GB) took 9 minutes. Now another disc (4.88GB) is an hour. All settings the same, all discs in fine condition.

I usually get full extractions of 6 to 7GB in less than 25 min, and I'm using a G4 iMac 800 with only 512MB ram. I usually shut other apps down first though.

I just thought to try the iBook - 6GB is quoting me a little over 30 minutes with the internal combo drive. I guess my Superdrive could be the sticking point for my desktop? Or is it that 2.6.6 is a bit slow on a G5?
