Let's just assume for a second that your purpose is to back up a legally bought DVD. Wouldn't want to condone any illegal activity here.

Firstly, rip the DVD to your hard drive using MacTheRipper. Follow the help file to make sure you use the correct settings.

This will create a VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive. Check that you can play this folder using the DVD Player application in OS X.

You now need to burn this folder to a DVD. Most common apps to do this are Toast and Popcorn although there may be others.

I find that Popcorn 2 works great to convert my discs to dual layer. That is after I use MacTheRipper.

I'm going to be doing DL DVD ripping quick question.

So you use MTR to get image or whatever to your HD. Then you use Popcorn 2 to rip it to a DVD? Any tips you can give me would be much appreciated. Also I have Toast Titanium 8 is that going to do everything that popcorn would do for me? Or do I need to look at getting popcorn?

I use MacTheRipper to get the image onto my hard drive. Then Popcorn can compress it down to a single layer disc. It can also remove audio tracks and special features if you just want the movie itself.

The old version of MTR is free (2.6.6) if you want to download the beta that deals with the latest security you'll need to donate.

Yes, thank you ;) , just go to versiontracker.com and 2.6.6 is on the right side of the page (top 5 downloads). I myself would donate for the most recent version of MTR because it is "well" worth it and I use it a lot to pull clips needed for info and so on.
