How is this a thing?

Why is it offering me free upgrades for software that I can upgrade anyway through the actual software or the App Store?
 
You must've downloaded something from macupdate(dot)com. They've been bundling stuff in with apps and are no longer considered trustworthy by many. Do a forum search. You'll find the disappointment.
