Macworld BTO iMac benchmarks

Macworld has posted their Speedmark 6.5 results for the new core i7 iMacs.

Other than video encoding, not much is gained going i5 to i7.

Who else is not impressed?

I'm trying to will myself not to be impressed, because I want to save money. I know I don't need an i7 but I can never help myself when I get into the Apple Store! That number 7 is teasing me all the way to the checkout.

I know what you mean. I've been waiting for this, and was prepared to return my i5 if the results were notable across the board. They're not.

Besides, I got mine on sale at BB so the difference in price would actually be $275 instead of $200.

I'm trying to compare the latest bto macs with my c2d 2.66 ghz iMac. Any idea where I might some older scores than those that are in the link?

I'm not too impressed but the upgrade costs aren't too much either so it kind of balances out.

Edit: I guess the best thing is to base it on the apps you use and whether they would benefit.

It's a better processor (i7) and provided the apps you use support the advanced tech (I need to find out about Logic specifically) it will be worth it.

You basically are trading bigger gains in performance in multi-thread apps for a smaller hit in performance when the i5's can TurboBoost higher.
