You can save it with Quicktime Pro. Dunno about VLC.

I have qt pro, but when i try to save it, it just gives me a small file that wants to use the internet to get the rest of the video. There doesnt seem to be any obvious way of saving the whole presentation to view offline

try and see http://macworld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/mw/

Well, I'm using QT 7.0.4 (the latest).

* File->Save as
* select "Self-contained movie" and hit save.

I have that too. It saves as a 4kb file called m_mw_2006_650_ref.mov

Im sure the whole presentation is more then that. Did you actually try it?

You can't save a QT (from QT Pro) if the file was specifically created for streaming. The "Save As" contextural menu is grayed out.

Again, you should actually try it

Save as works (it isnt greyed out) but it doesnt save the whole video, just a 4kb file..

Maybe its just impossible i guess.

OK, then just ignore that second part of my answer...

Ok thanks for the info.

I dunno why apple wouldnt want people to download it.

Good point. That may work. In the past I've often been able to rename the cache file with a .mov sufffix that QT has been able to read.

Shouldn't be too hard to find if you search for the most recent file in the cache folder - and that's pretty hefty in terms of file size :eek:

Yeah a search for file size mighty could do it. You'd first have to unhide the hidden folder though.

After I finished watching it, I pressed File > Export... and that did the trick. Its about 90mb too.
