MacWorld SanFrancisco 2003

MacRumors

MacWorld Expo San Francisco 2003 kicks off next week at The Moscone Center in San Fracisco.

The event that everyone is waiting for is Steve Jobs' keynote address which has been the traditional announcement event for new product releases. MacWorld SF 2002 brought us the long anticipated LCD iMac.

Recent rumors have been pointing towards both the iMac and eMac lines as potential upgrades. This correlates with the Apple's product cycles... with the most recent updates already to have refreshed the Powerbook (Nov 2002), iBooks (Nov 2002), and PowerMacs (Aug 2002).

The eMac and iMac have seen minor bumps (Superdrive, 17" Screen) over the past year but their last major revisions have been in April 2002 and January 2002, respectively.

Rumors have been floating around for speed bumped iMacs and eMacs. Recent information seems to indicate that Bluetooth will be integrated (at least) with the new iMacs.

While rumors of 19" iMacs were sparked in June by a Digitimes report, also rumored are 19" LCD's themselves. With the 15" LCD discontinued, Apple is in the position to move the product line into 17", 19", 23" tiered products. First rumors of such a move date back to this time last year (2001) from Railheaddesign.com

Beyond this, the most concrete information we have include definate iApp upgrades, a new Apple Application, and new "hardware/feature" -- which may prove to be Bluetooth. Other details are scarce.

you forgot the iPod

What if apple comes out with a slimmer 20gb iPod or something?
I highly doubt that Bluetooth would be it...I think it might be something completely revolutionary (as usual, steve unveiling iBreakthroughs).

I'm thinking consumer machine upgrades, an iApp upgrades to go with the consumer machines. Sure would like to see some updates to iChat, iPhoto, iCal and iMovie.

Regards,
Gus

I wouldn't be surprised if they announced FCP4. There are now prosumer level DV cameras (well, one, actually, i believe it's a Panasonic) that shoot in 24 fps and i think trade secret mentioned good 24 fps support for FCP4... That would suck for me though-- i just bought FCP3 about a month ago.

Final Cut Pro 3 Upgrade

Final Cut Pro 4 is no where near release. Had they even been close to being able to show it off even just a little, they would have done so at the DV Expo in December. MacWorld's are not the best venue for releasing a product like Final Cut Pro. DV Expo is the best place for such a product and it only precedes the expo by a couple weeks.

I would say Final Cut Pro 4 will not be ready until at least summer 2003 or even longer then that. Many in the industry believe that Final Cut Pro 4 is in the early beta stages.

I wonder if we'll see a seven day countdown to the 2003 MWSF?

ie like at the beginnning of this year (2002) on Apple's main page.

I think we'll see:

A new iPod with a color screen and QuickTime playback.

A new app called iVideo which is to movies what iPhoto is to Photos.

A new iMac with built-in Personal Video Recorder, which syncs videos with the new iPod.

iSync 1.0

iMovie 3

Bluetooth across the range.

I have no idea what to predict....?

I think we're definitely due for a Digital Device, but who knows?

Anyhoo......here are my pics:

SURE SHOTS -

iMac, eMac upgrades (duh), and a 19" screen

DIGITAL DEVICE -

Who knows? I think a camera, PDA, cellphone, quicktime watcher (color iPod), camcorder, and Tivo-device are all possible

RENDEVOUS-

Say hello to BlueTooth iStereo

AND THE WILDCARD -

The SuperBook....17" screen and 15 pounds of PURE POWER

ohhhh......and can't forget iTablet

I don't think we'll see iTablet this time.....but I do think that a detachable iMac screen is a possibility

I think a Tablet is a good bet, but they'll only release one now if they can think of a way of differentiating it from Tablet PC, otherwise they'll wait to see if Tablet PC is a success before deciding whether to release it. The presence of Inkwell in Jagwire indicates that they have such a device up their sleeves just in case.

Personally, I don't think Tablet PC will be successful, so it may be some time before Apple launches such a product.

Just imagine...

G5 2.5GHz 19" iMac with wireless detatchable screen, 500MHz Bus, 2 USB 4 FireWire and BlueTooth, built in SuperDrive and a 130Gb HD.......... *droooooools*

NAB is the place for a pro NLE release. i've heard a post house has been running a beta of 4 since september. i'm going with an NAB/april release of fcp4.

no idea what could be released at mwsf.
what i want released is an iPod with a mic input and record function.

fcp update

will have to include india titler pro... well at least the code, to give boris some compition in the compisitng plugin world. apple bought that software quite a while ago... sounds like its the right time to announce it.

iTunes 4

Rendezvous support -- enuf said :)

I just hope they don't make it so that you have to be running iTunes on both ends to make it work -- I want to be able to use it without having to be logged in on the server end

iPod stock is so high i dont think its likely that a new iPod will be released yet

I don't know about that. just did some research this morning and here's what I've found:

Best Buy is reporting all of their iPods as "on order" with a 5-7 day wait, except for the 20GB versions which are in stock

The Apple Store is quoting 3-5 waits on 5GB and 1-2 waits on 10s and 20s

Amazon.com is still reporting 24 hour turnaround.

I'm not sure what to think about the iPods they're a huge seller and I'd love to see an update. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and remaining hopefull.

Question...

Oops...forgot to ask this in my last post.

Could someone tell me if we'll have to see a hardware change in the iPod to include MPEG4 or could this be done with software? Though I'm hoping for hardware updates exactelly how much could Apple do with software alone and make people feel they're getting a whole new iPod for no extra cost?

This makes lots of people happy because they can still use their old iPods and get new features. If that's the case then I think we're likely to see price drops and software features increase.

Re: Re: Re: Final Cut Pro 3 Upgrade

w00t :D I am so glad I asked for the money for an iPod so I can get one after Jan 7th :D This fsckin' rocks :D

I hope Apple drops its prices on the iMacs as they did with the iBook.

I hate to say these kinds of things, but Dell is really being aggressive on pricing, selling a 15"LCD + desktop for $700!

Here's my theory:

Likely:
iApps upgrades
new iApp: "iMuse" or "iMusic" (iApp music production - they didn't buy that company for nothing you know!)

Maybe:
hardware updates - speed bumps

Outside:
Bluetooth

What I really want:
SuperDrive for older PowerBooks

Daniel

I have a feeling we will see:

Demo on Powerbook DVD buring

Talk about iBook cost decrease

The Xserve RAID configuration released with nice little demo of the complete Apple server package (Xserve and RAID).

iTunes with Rendezvous (released and ready to download)

Demo of Bluetooth with HP Wireless Printers, Phillips Bluetooth stereo, and something new? Phillips stereo out soon

19" Apple Display, with price drops on entire line

Price drops on iMac and eMac line, with upgrades. No new 19" iMac

Release of iSync (with more support for Bluetooth mobile phones)

Upgrades to one iApp, no new iApp released

NO Tablet

NO Digital Device

No iPod upgrade
