The iPhone was not exactly expected, still a surprise to most of the visitors.

So I guess something else was getting the crowds to SF...!?

The Expo floor definitely felt more crowded than in years past, almost to the point of being uncomfortable. Kind of like Trader Joe's on a Saturday afternoon.

Nice analogy. :)

It was too crowded for comfort at times. I think IDG has posted larger attendance figures in the past, but in the past, MWSF took up all of both halls, so it was more spread out.

Why don't they have them in london! I would go then, yes I know its an American company, but isn't London the centre of the universe?:p

Yes, bring them to London! Then I'd be 100% there :p

They have meetings at the Kensington Olympia...nothing special, but at least there's something...

On the second part, you're half right. London used to be considered the 'exact' centre of the universe, until a few months back, when they found that extra bit on the left edge of the universe, so neptune is now in the centre...

Absolutely! But Apple wants to be at the center of the universe! Which is somewhere else entirely.

The centre of the universe is based on a universe comprised of the British Isles; New Zealand; bits of Africa; 312 cricket pitches in India, Pakistan, and the West Indies; a pub in New South Wales; a tax shelter in Jersey; the planet Neptune; and a black hole in the Andromeda galaxy. The center of the universe is based on a universe comprised of the aforementioned smaller universe plus many other places. The center is thus located elsewhere; specifically, Kansas City, Missouri; more specifically, the second chair at the third table on the right in Arthur Bryant's Barbecue (18th and Brooklyn).

It would certainly help if they could spread out the major exhibitors between both halls. But, of course, everyone wants to be in the hall with the Apple booth. Maybe an Apple booth in each hall is the answer.

True. North Hall was almost a dead zone this year, and last year too IIRC. Gaming was about the only major draw.

Well, I was a first-time attendee drawn by the MacRumors meet-up and the free exhibit hall passes from OWC.

If you hadn't come the place would have been a lot less crowded. :)

Well, yes...there was the issue of my horse.

But seriously, I wonder how many people did take advantage of the OWC offer. Or have they done the same thing in the past and I just wasn't paying attention? (I assumed it was a special one-time thing to get people in the door to see the ModBook.)

I think there was just more buzz around :apple: itself in the past year. Life long PC users are not buying macs more then ever. Not just in north america, I have a friend in Norway who said they are becoming very popularthere as well.

It was just a little horse. A hoarse whisper.

I believe OWC has made these passes available in previous years. Other exhibitors have made them available as well.

Macworld.co.uk reports that Macworld San Francisco 2007 had "record-breaking" attendance with 45,572 attendees in 2007, compared to 38,441 in 2006.

Apple introduced the iPhone at Macworld 2007, which certainly helped to draw the record crowds.

Event with expected introduction of record breaking and highly anticipated new product draws large numbers of people... film at 11.

But first, lets get back to the line outside EBGames for the new Playstation4...

Announcements don't draw the registrations or attendance, at least on the first day. It's interest and anticipation of announcements that gets the people in the door. So we should give Mac rumor sites the credit!

45000 people isn't exactly a lot though is it? I thought these events would be really popular.

Which explains why people in Kansas still think the Sun goes round the Earth :p

45K is really good. At its peak, the COMDEX show attracted about 200K attendees, and that covered the whole computer industry instead of a single manufacturer.
