Macworld's article claims that HP Touchsmart 11 and Envy are pretty much Macbook clones. After looking at the HP website, there are some differences and for the price, they are pretty competitive in features. For many people like me looking at the choices and options offered by Apple and HP, being informed is a good way to making a buying decision.
First, the $400 HP Touchsmart 11 is based around AMD's new Jaguar APU (utilized in eight-core versions for Sony's PS4 and Microsoft's Xbox One next gen game consoles).
Some notable features:
Choice of either dual core A4-1250 or quad-core A6-1650 APUs with Radeon GCN graphics
Ten point touchscreen, 11.6 Led-backlit display
Solid aluminum base frame
User upgradeable memory (4/8GB)
Ethernet, wireless 802.11bgn and optional Bluetooth
DTS Stereo Audio
Truevision webcam
Three cell battery for up to 7 hours operation
Weight: 3.04 pounds
Comparing pictures of the HP Touchsmart 11 and the Macbook Air, many people can see the clear resemblance.
Next, the HP Envy 15z-j000 Notebook PC is priced around $550-$650 depending on optional configurations:
AMD quad-core A8-5550m or A10-5750m APUs
Radeon 8000 integrated and optional HD 8750m discrete dual graphics
Display 15.6 HD BrightView LED-backlit Display (1366x768)
optional 15.6 HD BrightView LED-backlit Display (1920x1080)
