Mad Catz Interactive today officially started shipping its C.T.R.L.i and Micro C.T.R.L.i Bluetooth-enabled mobile gamepads. Announced earlier this year at Mobile World Congress, the controllers are compatible with Apple's latest iOS devices running iOS 7 and iOS 8. While there has been some limited availability of at least the larger model through several retailers in recent weeks, today's announcement indicates both models should now be broadly available.

Both controllers use Bluetooth to connect to an iOS device and support multiplayer gaming, allowing up to four gamepads to connect with a single iOS device. Available in five colors, the controllers feature dual joysticks, dual left and right triggers, a D-pad, and four controller buttons. They also include clips that allows users to attach their iOS devices to the controllers for mobile game playing.

Mad Catz's C.T.R.L.i gamepad is a full-size controller for gamers looking for a console-like experience. It is available now for $49.99 and is compatible with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5/5s/5c, iPad Air and Air 2, iPad mini 2/3, and the iPod touch (5th Generation). Compatible with the same suite of devices, the Micro C.T.R.L.i is 20 percent smaller and retails for $39.99.

Decent price, but never heard of this brand. Gonna go check it out!

MadCatz is pretty good. They've made controllers for consoles for decades and their quality control has gotten a million times better.

Their high end street fighter 4 fight stick is excellent.

How long does the battery last? What types of batteries does it take or is it rechargeable?

I'm just glad the prices are finally starting to come down. Initial iOS controllers have been way too expensive.

I really like the idea of using my iPad as a game console. But are there any really good ganes which take advantage of a gamecontroller, e.g. GTA? I'd love to play Diablo on an iPad someday.

Finally prices that make sense. I feel like this is something I would buy and use only a handful of times though. If a controller is an option (ie I'm at my house) I'll be playing xbox.

Why can't someone make a case that is not super huge for the iPhone 6 form factor that has all the control buttons you need on it?

Finally a decent looking controller at a good price! Might pick one up and finally play gta 3.

that photo is ridiculous. "let's all go outside and play video games. also, let's wear headphones so we don't have to listen to each other!"

GTA San Andreas supports iOS controllers for sure. Not too sure about GTA 3 or Vice City, although I'd be very surprised if 3 has controller support. It's easy enough to find out if an app has the support before downloading though. The library does seem to be expanding.

According to their website: http://madcatz.com/gamesmart-micro-c-t-r-l-i/

It only works on ios 7. does anyone know if it works for ios8 or if it will VERY soon?

"Mad Catz’ Micro C.T.R.L.i Mobile Gamepad delivers traditional gaming controls for devices running iOS 7."

Even on the website it is written in BOLD.

It uses 2 AAA batteries. I don't know how long the life is, but I have finished a couple of games already with my micro without issues, it shows about 60% still on the helper app. (So basically not a huge issue, if it becomes one for you simply get rechargeable AAA batteries.)

I have had a micro for a few weeks. No issues on iOS 8 at all.

FYI: a good list of games can be found here: http://afterpad.com

Too bad it doesn't come with a Playstation layout as well, I'm not a fan of the Xbox controller.
Also it's priced at €59,99 in Europe and €49,99 for the micro.

The Steelseries Stratus XL has the playstation layout & looks pretty sturdy. The only thing it doesn't have is the bracket to hold an iPhone, but as I'll be using it mostly with the iPad, it's not personally an issue. I just bought it from the online Apple UK store. £59.95 so a bit pricey but looks the part.

I'll be using it mostly with the iPad as well. The SS Stratus XL is the one I want actually, but won't be getting one anytime soon unless it's on sale or they cut down on the price. It's not worth that much and I wouldn't pay more than €40-€45 for a controller. Currently it's €69,95 at the Apple Store in Europe.

Wished I could just use the PS controller with my iOS devices, wouldn't have to waste money on another one.
