......it disappeared completely from the finder so i typed "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true" in the terminal window and it has put the folder back where it should be in the finder menu but the folder is still dimmed so i assume my system still sees it as a hidden file so i need a command to tell the system that it is not a "hidden" file, any ideas?? I'm not even sure if I'm on the right track, I'm only new to Mac's

Houdini is a utility to hide/unhide files and folders. You can also use it to view all hidden files without terminal commands, restart finder, and maybe some other things too.
