Hi all,

I have an M4 Mac mini paired with an Apple Magic Keyboard 2 (model A2449). For the monitor, I have an HPM27f.

All of the function keys on the keyboard work (volume/spotlight/focus etc), except the brightness keys (F1 and F2). They didn't function on my previous M2 Mini either. I'm assuming this is because I'm running an external monitor.

Does anybody know if there is a workaround for this, or have a solution? I do sometimes like to dim the monitor, but it's a faff as I have to do it manually using the monitors built in menu. Am I being discriminated against because it's an external monitor? 😂 😂 Would be nice to be able to use the keys!

Dan

Monitor Control or Better Display, both sourced from Github, will do what you want.
Both do as they say on the tin - control or better display features.
They also control audio levels if you are using the monitor as a source of sound.

They don't work with Apple's own Studio Display either. I use Monitor Control (free), but to be honest I don't even know why I bother. I NEVER lower the brightness, so there's really no reason to even use the app.

Thanks for that: I’ll give them a go and see how I get on.

I find I do suffer from a bit of eye strain occasionally: I wear glasses anyway, but sometimes it just catches me out, so I reduce the brightness for a while. Didn’t realise just how much I used that feature until I sold my iMac over a year ago, I’ve put up with it for a year, now it’s just annoying!

Finally got around to downloading Monitor Control. I had a look at BD, but it had far more customisation than I needed. I did make a small donation for MC as it just worked, dead simple, and is just what I was after. Thank you for i do 👍🏻👍🏻

For the studio display brightness, you'd need to use CTRL+F1/2 to adjust its brightness; not sure if this applies for 3rd party external monitors.
