My virtual on-screen keyboard on my 2020 iPad Air (4th gen) keeps popping up and taking up half the screen even though I’m using my Magic Keyboard.

If I press the keyboard circumflex key on the on-screen keyboard, the keyboard hides but the cursor also disappears and my Magic Keyboard won't type. Then I need to click on the spot where I wanted to type and the onscreen keyboard returns.

I've looked at other posts that recommend going to AssistiveTouch in accessibility settings and turning off either AssistiveTouch or the "show Onscreen Keyboard", but this unfortunately did not fix the problem. AssistiveTouch was actually already turned off when I checked, but playing around with this setting didn't help. Neither has a hard restart.

It would be great to be able to see the lower half of my iPad screen while I'm typing.

Thanks for any help!

I have been using the Magic Keyboard for IPP 10.5 for three years until the above happened consistently and eventually made the keyboard unusable. I then bought a new keyboard as my IPP is still very usuable to me.
Hence, I think is is a defective keyboard that causes that. If you have warranty then get it replaced,
