I have a wireless magic keyboard that has been fine for a couple years. It was used first with my Mac Pro and later with the mini since May of last year. Recently there have been intermittent periods when typing becomes very slow and unreliable. Everything will be fine as at present, then suddenly it will become very laggy across all apps creating various difficulties.

At times the special characters will pop up when pressing a normal key and there might be a delay, followed by multiple spaces or characters and it becomes nigh on impossible to edit. Later on all will return to normal for a day or so.

This started under Big Sur, then continued with Monterey and right now it's perfect, but ten minutes ago it was playing up. I switched off Bluetooth then enabled it again and it is OK.

Yesterday I gave it a good clean in case that was the issue and it seemed to be great afterwards until this morning, but now I am thinking the temporary fix was simply turning it off and on again. This has generally been reliable with the mini, so the recent random behaviour has been confusing. Is this simply one of the infamous Bluetooth issues or possibly something else?

It may well be, though hard to track down. I have quite a lot going on there with six attached external drives, plus other peripherals but it was generally reliable until recently. Now it's fine, whereas a few minutes ago I was editing a URL in a browser and the cursor was jumping in position to the end of the word with each keystroke. I have an old wired keyboard that works without a hitch.

I've been migrating towards mechanical keyboards on all my machines, so I've been sticking with wired myself for a little while now.
