Magic keyboard not working without cable...!!!

I have bought apple magic keyboard with numeric keypad.. I'm running this on MBPr 13" late 2013.

I have been using Logitech MX anywhere 2S with no problem.

Prob is.. the new magic keyboard would not work without lightning cable installed!!

Is this keyboard not compatible with my old MacBook Pro? I bought this keyboard because I'm sick of using the laptop keyboard while running external monitor and I am planning to upgrade the MacBook later this year.

How do I fix this problem of the new magic keyboard not running without the lightning cable?
