Magic keyboard Touch ID no battery level indicator

I just got the magic keyboard with touch ID, I have a 2012 Mac mini, I understand that the Touch ID needs a M1 computer, that is not the problem, I cannot find any way to see the charge/battery level indicator and there are no options in the keyboard preferences to display it. Any idea ? Someone mentioned that installing Big Sur solved the problem.

Clicking on Bluetooth in the menu bar will show the keyboards battery level.

It doesn’t show when I click on the menu bar and on the keyboard preferences, are you using Catalina ?

I’m guessing this could be linked to the keyboard not technically being supported. It may have a different identifier to the standard wireless keyboard that’s not included in Catalina.

You’re probably right, it shows for the latest Magic trackpad (3) which is not really different inside than the original one.

Just discovered the Fn keys don't work either. I don't recommend this keyboard for someone running Catalina.
