I can't seem to get touch ID working with my M1 Max in clamshell. I just got the brand new Magic Keyboard with Touch ID (usb-c). I don't see any option to unlock anything with touch id, and if i try to add a new fingerprint, it doesn't respond at all.

Is there some other setting I need to change?? I'm very confused. I've read a lot of threads saying to connect via usb-c first, forget the keyboard by bluetooth, power cycle, all that. Nothing has worked for me.

I am in the same situation with an M1 Macbook Pro. I have an older bluetooth Magic Keyboard I have used for a couple of years now and TouchID stopped working when I came back from a recent trip. I deleted the fingerprint and tried to add a new one but it just doesn't see the finger. I assumed the keyboard had gone bad and ordered a new one which is doing the same thing. I am on the latest Sonoma.

So it isn't an incompatibility issue because my older keyboard is not a new one. So what could it be? I tried forgetting the keyboard, powering it off, rebooting the Macbook Pro, and all of those at the same time, no love.

Ah, seems I have to connect the MK to my Mac with a USB to Lightening cable and then enroll the fingerprint in Touch ID. Now it works again.
